Critical Illness

Critical illness insurance

Critical illness insurance is one of three voluntary benefits available for you to purchase to supplement your medical plan. These provide you with additional protection against unexpected costly events affecting your health. The other two voluntary benefits that supplement your medical coverage are hospital indemnity insurance and accident insurance.

Critical illness insurance helps with covering the costs associated with treating a critical illness, such as cancer, heart attack or stroke. This plan will provide a lump-sum payment directly to you, and can be used to assist with medical bills, cover travel expenses for loved ones, or cover other out-of-pocket expenses you may incur when you are battling a major illness.

Because early detection makes it more likely that a critical illness can be treated effectively and with a greater chance of success, the critical illness insurance program also pays a wellness benefit to encourage you to get certain health screenings. For each covered person, critical illness insurance will pay a wellness benefit of $50 per 12-month period for undergoing a covered screening. These screenings include a colonoscopy, mammography, Pap test, PSA blood test for prostate cancer, and many more. Learn more.
